The Josef Ruefelli line – “A Passion for Precision” – takes its inspiration from one of the two Swiss immigrant brothers who started Colonial Bronze in 1927.
Josef, shown here, was particularly obsessed with precision. His toolbox, which we still have, contains drafting tools, calipers, micrometers, and other gauges that attest to his dedication to precision manufacturing. And, given the fact that Josef came from the canton in Switzerland just over the border from Lake Como in Italy, his zeal for precision was heavily influenced by Italian design.
As a result of the combined influences of Swiss precision and Italian design, the Josef Ruefelli line is rectilinear, with meticulously machined geometric patterns. Through the use of computer-assisted design and manufacturing software, each almost jewel-like pattern and shape is exactingly engraved into the surface of the hardware using diamond-tipped tools, some of which are as small as 0.005” in diameter.
The variety of patterns that can be imparted to the hardware is almost limitless, and while the Josef Ruefelli line will offer some patterns as standard, it is capable of receiving customer-supplied artwork or design preferences and incorporating them into the hardware upon request, even to the extent of incorporating customer supplied graphics.
The line is created from solid raw brass and then finished in an array of single or combinations of finishes. Because the process is undertaken entirely within our Connecticut facility, the combinations of finishes make the designs especially versatile. A matte black surface can have a polished nickel, brass or even a rose gold-like design. Likewise, a polished nickel or polished chrome background can be enhanced with the addition of a matte black or polished brass pattern. Between the pattern and finish possibilities, the possibility of getting just the right accent detail is assured.
The hardware offers a complete suite for every space, from knobs and handles to appliance pulls and master closet hardware. The entire Josef Ruefelli line is a sound, environmentally-conscious choice, having been certified by Scientific Certification Systems to contain 94% pre-consumer recycled material, and its incorporation into a project will contribute toward the project’s LEED® certification.
